ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Purpose: American University of Cyprus  , Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, the undergraduate program deals with the scientific study of political and administrative issues. The main topics of analysis are political thoughts, ideologies and management systems, as well as the main topics of political science such as power, authority, legitimacy, social structure, classes, gender, nation, political parties, political participation. Legal, urbanization and environmental issues, public policies and local governments are the main areas of knowledge in the context of public administration discipline. In addition to an academic education on these issues, it is the main concern of our department to train people who can think critically and have an intellectual identity in accordance with the creative and universal information age. The vocational knowledge and skills of the students are further enriched with the courses related to the areas of interest from our university's elective courses pool.

Vision: Equivalent to international criteria in education, competent in theory and practice, possessing creative, up-to-date and historical information, improved written and verbal expression skills; The department, which aims to give graduates sensitive to political and administrative fields with professional ethics, aims to enrich education with interdisciplinary collaborations and develops a critical thinking centered education model that aims to interpret the current scientific.

Mission: Political Science and Public Administration has the qualifications to fulfill its profession in national and international platforms, private and public institutions, establish interdisciplinary relations, research, approach scientifically, follow innovations, and develop themselves; to give graduates who have a constructive role in the globalizing new world order, open-minded, sociable, solution-oriented, gained leadership skills and who can practice their profession in individual and group studies; to train managers who have a talented, creative, critical mind (mindset) and respect professional ethics.

Program Description: The basic philosophy of the undergraduate program is to create a sensitivity to think, design and apply within the framework of social responsibility, sustainability and ethical values by evaluating the knowledge specific to the field with a critical approach. In this context, it is aimed to gain competencies at the national and international level, which includes the knowledge, skills and competencies required for law, sociology, history and philosophy and the profession of Political Science and Public Administration.


Admission and Registration Requirements: Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is done through the examination system conducted by the Measurement Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Student registration procedures are carried out within the framework of the principles set by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The Rectorate declares the registration dates, required documents and registration places of the candidates who will register to the University for the first time each year. Registration procedures are carried out by the Registrar's Office. Final registration is not possible with missing documents or mail. The records of those determined to have tampered with the documents are not recorded. If it is understood that it was registered by mistake, its records will be deleted.

Graduation Requirements: In order to graduate from the Political Science and Public Administration undergraduate program, a passing grade from 50 courses (Local Credit: 145, ECTS: 240) included in the 4-year (8 semesters) curriculum, the average is 2.00 and above, and one internship course. must have completed successfully.


Employment Opportunities: The graduates of the American University of Cyprus, Faculty of Political Sciences, Political Science and Public Administration degree program find jobs in private institutions, especially ministries and local governments. Our graduates also work in sectors such as inspectorate, consultancy, banking, communication, education, media and public relations, national and international organizations.
